| Hey all! I know that it's the admins that decides the rules on this forum, but I thought I should bring this up, so anyone can come with their opinions on the signature rules. After all it's not the admins that makes this forum so great, but all the dedicated users that spend a lot of their freetime helping newbies and sharing experiences on all aspects of the scorpion hobby. Now, my question is, is the signature rules regarding banners a bit over-kill? I meen 75x500pix isn't really much space to be creative in! Ever since the topic "How to List Your Inverts" was posted people has been using the Up/Down scroll function to list their inverts (myself included) and this has resulted (for me atleast) that loading the page is a slow process! Also I find it more funny if people has the option to list their inverts in a unique manner! Anyway I made this banner (and it took me a long time, noob on a computer )! It measures 476x218pixels: But ofcourse it was removed SO WHAT DOES THE COMMUNITY THINK ON THIS SUBJECT? And admins, please don't remove this topic as it isn't meant as an offence to you! This topic is purely meant as a chance for people to debate this! |

| The rules were created to prevent obnoxiously large banners because at the time they were instated, some users were starting to go overboard. The staff all agreed on the current restrictions. I for one would rather not see the large graphics or excessive amounts of text each time I scroll by a particular user's post. _________________ If your emperor scorpion stops eating, don't panic. | My reviews | My Bug Pictures | My blog Be nice -- you were a noob once, too "Never ask an engineer to explain something, because he will." |

| Yea, that makes sence, but 500x75pixels? come on Btw your signature takes up more space then my old did (which you removed), only difference was that mine was a banner? Just doesn't make sence, friend But surely I can understand if people goes overboard and make a banner that's 1000pixels wide, but you can't really make anything nice, or use any letters in 75pixels... |

+1 mine was removed and it wasnt that big at all people had commented on how nice mine was...just a plan image with a small list to the side
personally i find the scrolling ones annoying you have to sit there for 5 minutes before you can read the damn things so i just dont bother |
Exactly my point! It is very nice if a few people makes the up/down, but when everyone does, my computer nearly crashes + it's just dull!
And yes your banner was very nice, still is, but small
Seriousely I don't get it! It hasn't been a problem while I have been active on this forum, but somebody must have come back from a vacation or something because suddenly everyone gets the rulebook stuck where the sun don't shine!

| I like the signature rules. Personally, I'm not a fan of peoples' collections being listed in their signatures. If you wanna show off what you got, there's plenty of places to do it other than your signature.
Small pictures are ok, but you don't need some huge image just to mark your post. I do like your signature picture, bex but I agree that the one in your post is a little big.
The scrolling lists are slightly annoying to me. If you must list your collection, I'm a fan of the drop down menu. |

| If peoples machines are bogging down due to scrolling and flashing that is understandable then and I myself will stay away from that sort of thing. I'm a geek with a machine that is a tank so often over look that sort of thing. I had a machine that ran everything but Crysis on High and still would but I built my current box to play Crisis on high Images could be a little larger though, I made mine and it was removed. I didn't remember the size per rules, just figured I'd get restricted at the time of putting it up. I'll have to make one to the size that the limit is set too. Personally I like being able to see peoples collection and as maybe Rene mentioned in another post added a wanted list. It is tough to scroll though stuff and find peoples lists etc (ie; old posts) I like the fact that after reading a post I can look down and see what people keep. I find it helpful to myself to update my lists on the forum as my collection grows and changes. I think it also makes it easier to see a wanted list if you have scorplings suddenly or come across a deal or some availability on a species you know others are looking for as well. It also makes it further identifiable scrolling through threads on who is who or finding a specific post in a thread without using the search function. I have yet to recreate an image for my signature but will do so over the holidays here and see what I think. I'll post up my opinion on that at that point. As for the rules, I understand why they are inplace and can respect and appreciate that as well. So please don't take any of this the wrong way, I just think it is important to review the rules and understand why they are inplace and figure out how to appease everyone. If people are going overboard and slowing down machines or taking up more space than posts that is too much but if not there should be some flexability allowed with creativity and how we like to communicate. After all this is the best forum on the net dealing with scorpions and it is even better to almost completely focus on scorps. I don't want the community to change unless it is growing. I know I used many forums as references but didn't have the patience to partake in the community. This forum is different though and I hope a happy medium can be found. Mr. Mordax please post up your code example on how you got the Tab code to work as I still couldn't get it to work without writing scripts which may not be allowed either. |

| I just think that it's different in here, in a better way, than other forums and maybe we don't need so many rules? If people are annoyed or find your signature to be a problem in some way I think people in here can tell each other and ask politley for you to chance the signature and ofcourse if this doesn't help, the admins can step in... I must admit I get slightly provoked with all this "enforcing the rules" all of a sudden when I have never heard anyone in here complain about eachother? |

| Ok, I have played around with a generic banner at the legal size and you can see what kind of space we are looking at. I'm thinking, that I understand the reasoning for the rules and I could even understand if you wanted to limit scrolling and stuff due to system resources (despite my better judgment as a developer, most systems should be able to handle this stuff, we are after all moving to web 2.0 and that is what it is all about!) I can see a cap on the height and 75 px seems to push the boundaries of reasonable on the small side but I could be satisfied with that. After all I don't want to scroll for 5 minutes to get past only 3 posts but can we at least push for the legal width cap to span the width of the full signature area? Maybe to at least 750 px or whatever it is. Actually i'll play with it and see .... muhahaha But all in all at I'd vote to petition for the normal width of a signature or posting area. |

We'll see what the admins think about mine. I specifically looked at the rules and got 500px X 75px so that is what I made this image at. Will be very curious if they want to remove it. |

| There is a not-so-fine line between being creative and being overzealous. Some of us just want to read the contents of the posts faster. Siggies take up tea break time. |
