| Hello all again, I was hoping for a little insight from everyone. As most know I have an over abundance of scorplings at the moment and I have been working on finding them homes. I've almost expired the State of WI and need to start shipping. This is where my questions come in. Anyone have any recomendations of places to get supplies for shipping? As well as proven brand names for these supplies. I need the following so far: Vials Coolers Heat packs If there is anything else that I may need please let me know I have some of these things from previous orders but would like to make sure I have supplies again in the future. Feel free to add any pointers on shipping these little guys. Also on a side note - Anyone have any suggestions on good books or movies on scorpions? Any insight is as always, appreciated! |

| Vials can be purchased from thorntonplastics.com for about $55 per case, or since you're shipping scorplings, just find a restaurant supply store near you and ask for suffle cups. You can also get the little cups from some delis or any place that serves stuff in them. Coolers? Do you mean cold packs or styrofoam coolers? If you mean cold packs, check walmart and ask for somebody. For a styrofoam cooler, do the same or get styrofoam sheets from a home improvement or craft store. Heat packs can be purchased online or at a sporting goods store, especially since the temperatures are dropping and hunters need warmth. I know there's a thread on AB in the classifieds with a guy selling 40 hour heat packs for fairly cheap. Hm, just make sure you pad them well and don't make the paper towel/toilet paper too too moist. And if you need to, you can usually fit a couple scorplings in the same cup, just don't over crowd. Get Gary Polis's biology of scorpions. It's pretty much a text book, but I have it and love it, not that I've actually read it yet |

| Those small deli/condiment cups I have been getting for about $0.80 per 50 or so from a grocery store down the road, so if this will pass for shipping I can use those and save a lot of cash.
How tight should they be wrapped in those? I know there was just a little room in the vials but I think packing them in there will be a little different.
I have a lot of styrofoam insulation I could cut pieces up, but did like the all inclusive little cooler boxes. (which was what I was refering to)
With H. Spinigerus and H. Trilineatus do you think I still need to wet the paper towel? They seem to thrive with minimal water? I could mist it or even one end of it, but I'd also worry about the cold a little with the moisture. Actually I'm worrying about the cold a lot.
I'll check out that book too. Definitely appreciate all the insight. If I keep having babies I will have to look at the vials as I think those wold hold up to a little more abuse. I have some left from orders but am not sure if I have enough for all the scorps I'm looking at sending. Thanks again |

| Your deli containers will be perfectly fine for shipping, just tape them closed just in case. You can get plenty of insulated container options by googling "Insulated shipping container"
But honestly, I think cutting your own will be just fine.
Definitely mist the paper towel lightly with all young scorps. You'd be surprised at how fast dessication can happen
That's the book! |

| If your scorplings are particularly tiny, load up on drinking straws. You can cut them in thirds and stuff each end with a moistened paper towel with the scorp in the middle. Then you can load your straws into a vial for added protection during shipping.
I've used this method before, and my wife has used it to ship several hundred slings without incident. _________________ If your emperor scorpion stops eating, don't panic. | My reviews | My Bug Pictures | My blog Be nice -- you were a noob once, too "Never ask an engineer to explain something, because he will." |

I completely forgot about this method, it works very well! I would use this method.
DLP, if you've got an larger delicups, you can use those. Just pad the sides lightly if you'd like, then crumple up paper towel in the middle and coax the pede in the cup. It may take a few tries, but I suggest doing it in a bath tub (drain BLOCKED) or a large rubbermaid to prevent escapes. Getting the lid on fast enough is the hard part! |

| You can also tape the cups if you're afraid of them popping open. |

| Awesome, thanks for the pointers. I could even get those fatter straws for the questionable sized ones. I want to send the older larger ones so they have a better chance to make it.
I spent a little with Google and those pedes, they are beautiful!! |
