hes around 2 inches at the moment and i am realy hoping its an Emperor. I bought it from the 'best pet shop in England' and im having my doubts. The chela don't look like that of an Emperor but i don't know wether its because hes only a juvenile. http://i69.servimg.com/u/f69/15/89/82/28/afs_or11.jpg thanks Smile

I think it is Pandinus Imperator, but it is not fully grown (when it's adult the stinger will turn brown/red)!

it looks like a forest scorpion that will be black and large, no real way of confirming what it will be because there are loads of big black forest scorpions. 1 or 2 more molts and you might be able to have a better guess from the indentations and stuff on the claws, but that still doesnt mean it is definitely an emp.
hope it is though Very Happy

I agree with scorpio; it's hard to distinguish at a young age when the chela are still smooth.

The best thing I can suggest is to get it off that bark and onto some coco fiber.

It doesn't look like he's going to molt soon. They typically get really fat right before a molt. Also, it's hard to tell but it looks like your substrate is a little dry. Maybe mist some more?

is that one a new picture? if so you want about 2inches more of dirt and it needs to be damp, especially if its molting soon.

if you really pay attention to the pedipalps at the very first link, it appears to be AFS...They are smooth as well as they appear to be a tad elongated...

I'm going to go with Emperor Scorpion. Here's a pic of a sub-adult for comparison: http://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif

We had 2 male and female, the male never burrowed but the female made a huge one as soon as she was in the enclosure.... ive read that older scorps tend not to bother burrowing and i believe this was the case with our adult male as he passed away only a few months after we got him...RIP Tank RIP

I don't see emps burrow as much as asian forest scorpions. My AFS went to work while my emps were content with sitting in the premade burrow. Maybe it has something to do with their hunting habits or where they originated.

oh sorry i haven't replied in a while erm on the other side of the tank its around 4 inches deep its just not pictured and hes made a realy small burrow. and for some odd reason the substrate looks realy dry tin that picture but i mist twice a day. Anyway i can tell hes an emp now i had a closer look at his chela now (haven't seen him for a few days and hes molted) they look alot more like an emp's. Smile thanks guys!

Could be a good idea to mist in to the burrow, to make sure the humidity is high in there aswell... My problem with pouring water in to the enclosure is that it gets un-even!

i fill up a regular water bottle and pour half on one side and half on the other side of the enclosure....
i dont know if it evenly distributes it, but my 5i emp as had 2 successful molts from doing it like that
