PostSubject: Handling What to do's...   11/8/2010, 1:54 am

When i handle my H.Longimanus it becomes a bit aggressive but one its on my palm it becomes docile and when i put my scorp back it started going wild and wanted to go out of its container and goind straight in to my palm. should i hold her less or more for her satisfaction cause if i don't it will automatically go to my hands which is weird cause once i handle my scorpion it becomes a handle monster that just wants to be handled . What should i do.... but i like it wahehehe.

i think that some scorps do like being handled more than others, its like my flat rock loves being handled you can almost stroke her as if she is a cat lol a lot of the time i struggle to get her of me. how often are you handling her? i wouldnt recommend you do it alot because it can cause stress to them.

oh yeah and welcome to SF Smile

Well, don't handle your scorpions! If they seems to like it, it's because of the heat from your hand, maybe it's too low temperature in your enclosure?

And as Manser said, it can be really stressfull for the scorpions to be handled, plus the risc of you getting stung!

Just don't do it Wink

uhh my scorpion has became more docile than ever... so docile i could touch the pincher and she Wouldn't care ._. and
I kinda touched its pincher by accident because i was feeding her and something got stuck on her pincher that i have to take out but i haven't handle her on my palm or anything like that.

No scorp "likes" being handled.

Some are more tolerant, some are more easily stressed.

Some react to stress by going into "defensive mode," others react by playing dead.

One of the Euscorpius flavicaudis we went and caught from sheerness in uk liked to play dead when we first got it, it was quite funny it would just suddenly lay on its back for a few mins every time i went near the box it was in, poor lil thing...it doesn't do it anymore though

U. mordax do the exact same thing . . . if my server were still up and running I'd show a demonstration of such.

Aw that would be cool, I was worried the first few times it happened I thought we may have hurt it when we caught it but after a few more times it was funny, I never tried to touch it or anything just walking near the box was enough for it to flip on it's back for a few mins, weird coz none of the others did it lol and they are all fine now its not scared any more Very Happy

u. mordax are just e. flavicaudis but american lol!
all scorpions can do is eat, sleep, defend themselves, breed and dig. they have no sense of enjoyment further than an instinct that food and breeding is a good thing. by all means handle them occasionally, but dont say they enjoy it, because they cant, and have no reason to. i doubt they have the brain capacity to relate being handled with feeding even if you fed them every time you handled them for there entire lives.

Yes, if the scorpion was able to connect food with being on your pawn, it would be able to be domesticated and as we all know: it can't Wink

i wont say absolutely dont do it because with the choice for the scorpions sake i would rather pick it up than move it from its tank by the tail. its also good for educational purposes, but i dont advise it for your own entertainment, you will just shorten the scorps life through stress and increase the risk of a sting or pinch.

I could say that in the event of an emergency escape or something if you need to grab your scorp it'd be cool if no other options are available. But I really don't try handling any scorps as a +1 on the stress thing. I treat them fish. Same with T's but I've picked up a couple out of emergency and curiosity. I haven't made a habit of it and probably will not ever do it again unless there is an escapee
