LXDNG's Centipedes Empty
PostSubject: LXDNG's Centipedes   LXDNG's Centipedes Empty4/29/2011, 3:00 pm

Thought I should start posting my centipede collection. Having been based back in Borneo, I started cultivating a large centipede collection. Though the number of species I have is relatively small, their proliferation has led them to exceed my number of scorpions in sheer quantity.

1. Scolopendra subsinipes subsinpes
LXDNG's Centipedes Sssm001
I started with this pair of giants which my rat breeder caught for me.

Eventually they amounted to my first centipede breeding success.

The male died awhile back but the female yielded two broods.
I raised most of them in these individual vials.

They required quite a bit of double-tanking... taking no chances with these.

Eventually the first batch started to grow on me pretty fast...

... and needed progressive re-housing

Currently the first batch is being housed as shown below, amongst other pedes in collection.

Pushing 3.5 inches, they're now big enough to take on superworms

Mom is still around but she's getting old... I have 13 from her 1st brood and 44 from the 2nd. Think that might be her last brood.

2. Here's another Scolopendrid species which I have not identified.
LXDNG's Centipedes Scyf012
Smaller than S. subsinipes, I have two females which gave me a rather large brood. Total of 82 babies in all.
LXDNG's Centipedes Scyf01brood3
Anyone with an idea of what they let me know....

3. Here's an another Pede with no ID... possibly Ethmostigmus sp.
LXDNG's Centipedes EthmostigmusspBruneiBlue2
I caught this one in Brunei inside a termite-infested log. It's freshly-moulted in these pics.
LXDNG's Centipedes EthmostigmusspBruneiBlue
Typically very twitchy and doesn't like to be unearthed.

4. Here's another one (possibly of the same the genus) which I caught in my backyard.
LXDNG's Centipedes Ethmostigmusspblack
This species is more common here but likely much smaller at maturity than the former.

Anyone with an idea what some of these species might be, please post your suggestions.
Cheers and best regards

Very cool pedes you have Smile I was wondering whether or not you had any lol. I used to have a fan tailed centipede and they're definitely a fun part of the hobby to get into. Only problem is my mom detests them because she's gotten bitten by them several times.
