Building an enclosure Empty
PostSubject: Building an enclosure   Building an enclosure Empty9/18/2010, 1:03 am

You may have seen my post about surprise scorplings, well I decided now was as good a time as ever to build an enclosure. My dad had some lexan in the basement he got from work , so I decided to build what I believe to be the worlds' first bulletproof scorpion tank. I was just wondering, is silicone alright to seal the edges? I have pure silicone and I believe it's safe for pets since its in alot of terrariums and aquariums, but i thought i'd check to see if anyone knew.

be very carefull with that sort of thing that it doesent contaminate the tank. because the samllest amount of aerosol can do a lot of harm. just make sure there are not dangerous chemicals in there, but usualy when they say pets i dont think they mean scorpions. lol.

try to get silicon made for fish tanks. after using it, give it plenty of time to cure before putting the scorps in. however, silicon doesn't bond well to plastic. you'd be better off using glass.

You can get silicone for aquariums at some pet shops, it is the same stuff that they use to build the aquariums. I have also used Marine silicone. I believe it said something on the package about being ok for aquariums too. That I found at home depot and have had some V. Spinigerus in a tank I put a divider in with it for a few months with no problems. Good luck
