Hi, just been watching our female scorp excavating the hide she shares with our male, and was wondering...do all emps burrow coz our male never has since we got him.... not once! he just sits there! but the female seems to be burrowing daily inside the hide and actually is blocking the entrance lol with them both in it.....and also the newest addition to the family our baby scorp burrows like mad (in seperate container) , this makes me wonder if our male may be on his last legs and just cant be arsed???

just been watching her and took this pic for some reason she put a pile of substrate on each of the flat rocks we have in the viv (looks funny) you cant see in the pic but the hide entrance has a pile of substrate blocking it. just waiting for her to come out so i can post some burrowing in progress pics lol.....

Any input on this is much appreciated as we are still noobs..its only been 3 weeks since we got our first scorp...just worried about our male we have no idea how old he is as we got him as full adult ....what are the first signs of old age?

Nice! Looks like the female is doing all the work in the household, haha!

Sometimes they dig and sometimes they don't. I've had some that are just content to stay in the little indentation I've made for them. I've had others that will dig and never come out, but as long as they appear alert and attentive, I would say that's a good sign. I've had sluggish scorpions before and they always ended up dead. Sometimes I'll mess up their burrows so they can do the process all over again because I enjoy watching their burrowing process, but that's just me Smile
