PostSubject: New project!   8/28/2010, 10:25 pm

I got a tank today from my uncle. It's 37X18X17 with a wire mesh top. Im looking to build a desert type habitat for scorpions. I have an emp in a different tank so I know how to care for them. Any suggestions as to species in relevance to care, temperament, and toxicity? I live in florida and I havent ventured into any species besides the emps. Also any suggestions on substrates and types of rocks for hides?

as far as which scorp to go with next you might want to look at the The Scorp-O-Matic Choose Your Scorpion Wizard! thread which is on this board.. that will tell you what scorp you might be more into and then lead you to a care sheet... the care sheet should then help you with the tank setup... I only say this because I'm now to the scorp world myself and I think It has lots of good info....I have looked at every care sheet on it...and all of them sould like they could be fun... but each one varies so much, they are truly a personal choice.... but with me if I had a tank that size I would go with a scorp that I could raise communal... but for me once I get my emp tank setup done and all happy.... I'm thinking that a deathstalker might be fun.... but with kids in the house my wife is saying no for now.... so I will more then likely go with something like the flat rock.....but then again I have been thinking about doing spiders also...LOL and with a tank that size you may look at snakes...LOL anyway you choose to go keep up updated... and post pics when you can....and enjoy what ever you choose....

Well if I got a snake he would be thrown to the lawnmower. The one animal I am not allowed to own or care to own. I was looking for a scorp. that could be comunal but not extremely small. So after looking at the Wizard I am lost lol. I may try leopard gecko or something but id rather have scorps.

LOL I understand the snake issue... I love mine but like scorps they are not for every one... I will look thru the list again and see if I can find one you might like...

smaller but could be fun... because they are out in the open more and with a larger tank like yours you could get quit a few and no special heating or the likes needed..

or these they get to be 2 1/2 -3" which isn't big but not near as small as some and once again should be easy to keep....
