Hottentotta Trilineatus Questions Empty
PostSubject: Hottentotta Trilineatus Questions   Hottentotta Trilineatus Questions Empty8/23/2010, 8:34 pm

I had just posted about the loss of the 1 of my 3 V. Spins and am currently splitting up the remaining 2. I thought with food and space I could be on the lucky side of the 50/50 split on whether they are communal.

I'm thinking about getting a few Hottentotta Trilineatus's. Anybody have any insight into how these do communally? Also I have read a lot that 50/50 sand/peat mix is recommended for substrate. How does this species do with just sand? I have seen other pictures of them on sand and on small gravel.

Also if sand works, would it be safe to move them into an enclosure that I just moved some V. Spins out of? I didn't have any problems with mites or anything just have to separate my remaining V. Spins as I want the remaining ones to stay healthy, safe and happy.

Thanks in advance for any insight Smile

Sorry for the repeated question on the part of the substrate Sad I was tired last night and forgot I posted a similar question.

Hi there,
Sorry about your loss, that's very unfortunate. I've read of a few people who have kept them communally, but it's not as clear cut as emps are.

As for H. trilineatus, I couldn't find very much info on them, but here is a pretty good guide:

The best I can suggest from the little I know of them is to provide adequate space, food, and hides. Some members used 50/50 sand and cocofiber while others look like they just have it on sand.
I think it'd be fine to move into your V. spin setup.

Awesome, thank you H. Laoticus. I feel better getting a 2nd opinion. Even if I feel I'm on the right track I want to seek a little confirmation to ensure the little guys are taken care. I still haven't figured out how to break it to my son that we only have 2 V. Spins now. Thankfully Scorps like to hide as it is not uncommon for him to look in the vivariums and not see anything.
