Feeder Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches Empty
PostSubject: Feeder Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches   Feeder Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches Empty8/18/2010, 12:18 am

I was just curious if anyone has ever used Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches as feeders for their scorps? I have started a small colony of Blaptica Dubia for feeders but a friend of mine who has a lot of large reptiles and used the Madagascar Hissing Roaches for them. His colony was out of hand so he gave me a bunch. The are hella cool I was just wondering if I could feed the nymphs to either my V. Spinigerus's or H. Spinifers? Or a captive toad my son brought home Smile Thanks for any insight you may have.

Yup, you can feed them hissing roaches. Im not sure if the adults will be too large, but the nymphs will probably work fine.
I thought you were going to buy them, but if they're free, go for it lol

Awesome! And they were free, my buddy was feeding his tegu with them but his colony got out of control. I ended up with about 100 mixed juvi's and about 50 adults when I thought I was getting maybe a few pairs of adults.

I just got 125 Dubia's too for feeders but they are small nymphs with only 1 pair of adults. So I was thinking about not tapping that source until the colony builds a bit and I have more adults.

I figured the adult Hissers would be too big for the scorps but the babies are all different sizes. The adults may be ok for the H. Spins when they reach adulthood but we'll see at that point. I was a bit worried about the difference in exoskeleton, i wasn't sure if the Hissers were harder than the dubias and if so by how much.

Only downside I can see so far though is that the hissers can climb smooth surfaces where the dubias cannot.

Thanks again for the insight

Wow, they are pretty expensive roaches in my opinion. That's a pretty awesome friend you got there.
That is a good idea, feed them the hissing roaches and let the B. dubia colony stabilize.

I guess you can chop the adult hissers in half and then feed them if they're too large.
I had the same question, I don't know how hard the exo is from the hissers, but I assume the nymphs can be eaten fairly easily.
