Hey guys, been thinking of getting an Emp Scorpio for a while now and I've been doing some research for the ideal kit that is needed and i just cant come to any final desicion for what to buy.

At first I thought I would just go with the Exo Terra Invertabrate Habbitat Kit and be done with that. However since reading up on certain things I dont think this would be the best way to go.

At the mo my list consists of a 30x30x30 exo terra tank with Coco Husk as the substrate. I've been looking into these "false bottoms" and they look a good idea, my question is how xactley is it done. My thoughts are 4 3inch pipes placed on the bottom with a 30x30 egg crate placed on top like a table as it were? Is that it or do i need anything else?
The rest of my list consists of a small heat matt, a Euro Rep Red Night Spot Lamp and a Exo Terra Glow Light Small (14cm). Im just looking at sorting out the right heating/lighting/humidity requirements for the tank. I know Exo Terra do there own light boxes for the different tanks, should i get one of those instead?

Would really appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks

in my opinion if you do the false bottom, theres no need for a heat lamp at all being that the false bottom will keep the heat and humidity and an almost perfect setting...

as far as doing it in an exo terra tank, i dont know anything about that...i use a 29 gallon aquarium for mine, with the false bottom, a water bowl and 3 custom made caves for hides...

if you do an aquarium, theres a dozen people who could help you with all kinds of different setups for false bottoms...

I think Emps, need the lamp, and the humidity, so whenever you hydrate, pour the water on to the substrate.... have the lamp shine down on one corner of the tank to give it a temperature option, so when it wants to warm up, it seek that source and retreat from it when its had enough.

get a piece of pipeyou can run down oneside of the tank wirth a notch cut in the bottom of the pipe to allow the water to escape out - next fill the bottom with pebbles - not too big that the substrate youplaceon topwill fall right through.
next add your substrate - coco fibre peat or exo-blocks are all fine - add hide waterbowl and any aesthetics - now use the pipe to pour the water down into the pebbles and totop upas and when needed - i dont use this method but have done in the past i prefer to just use a heat lamp and regularly mist the tank Wink

Will a good heat mat work as well as a lamp?

in my opinion heat mats are not that good - i just cant seem to get a good heat from them - theyre ok for a couple degree warmer than room temp i find - i much prefer a bulb

Totally depends on: 1) The brand and type of heatmat
2) Whether you are using the heat mat on plastic or glass
