Unidentified Vaejovis? Empty
PostSubject: Unidentified Vaejovis?   Unidentified Vaejovis? Empty12/1/2009, 6:42 am

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I've been keeping tarantulas for some time but I've just recently got into scorpions, so I don't know a great deal about them.

Anyway, I bought 3 Vaejovis spinigerus recently, only one of them isn't... the other two look right for this species but one is a bit more graceful-looking (best way I can describe it) and with paler and more even colouring. I'm trying to learn some scorpion taxonomy but I'm finding it hard to find good resources when it comes to identifying species. Anyway, until I manage to get some better pictures, I am wondering whether the shop could just have accidentally put a V. confusus in my order. They do have some available. What do you think? Can anyone tell me what characters I should look for?

Edit: just spotted a similar topic below. I'm sure I checked before - I must be blind. Would still like opinions though.

She's now started to look very pregnant since I took those pictures.

Ok so after reading the previous spinigerus/confusus post I've gone and counted stripes on the segments just below the telson. The last segment before the telson has three stripes and the rest four, on all three scorpions. So that would make them all spinigerus? But they look different. This little one above has very differently proportioned and more delicate-looking chelae for a start (claws are longer than the bulbous bit - in the other two the claws are the same length as the bulbous bit).
