My first success with H. paucidens and P. imperator

Lifted a rock to make a routine check on my Hadogenes paucidens, and I was stunned by the unexpected.... I wasn't even expecting to see any babies at all. I replaced the rock gently and sat down for 1/2 an hour to let it register. Next day I tried to take my emp out for an exhibition and deja vu.

I'll have full breeding reports soon... but I'll give a little preview

My emp burrowed to the glass and I taped over her burrow window with some black paper. I took if off to check on her one day and....

I couldn't take one of the pauciden brood yet, hope you guys understand... I don't wanna risk stressing her... but I'll explain this much...

I was experimenting with Flat-rock communality. I set up a 40x20x20cm tank for a pair with three available hides.

Of my three flat-rocks, the larger female showed aggression towards both the other female and the male.

The remaining pair however were more inclined to avoid confrontation from each other and were left together prior to their own devices.

This time of year is roughly where the monsoon hits in spite of the apparent global climate change.

Strong gusts of cool wind blows into my apartment on the 13th floor. I think that might have prompted the births as the cool moist air may supposedly imply the onset of the rainy season. Mere after-thought...

As promised, full-breeding reports coming soon when i get more shots of the individual broods as they grow... Stay tuned

Congrats on your broods Alex!

Just picked up a male flatrock at the Newark show! They are very hard to find, they had one male out of about 15 females.

Well, that is the case here too what I heard... None of the stores here have Hadogenes at all... Once in awhile they may have Pandinus, or a laoticus or petersii mislabeled as...

But rumors say the male flat-rocks are more sought after for their long metasomas and as a result harder to come by... I wonder if anyone reading this can provide more insights as to why from a conservation standpoint.
