I have come to the realization that this species is really not communal. i had two groups 3.1 and 2.1 and im down to 1 in each group. i have sence traded one of them for some other species. i kept them in rather large enclosures with tons of hiding spots and still cannibalism prevailed.

I'm sorry that you lost your scorps but you really should have done some background reading on them.

They are one of the least communal sp there is.

i am aware of the background of these animals. i read up on them very much. i looked over every care sheet i can before i make a purchase both insect or other wise. i felt i provided more than enough hiding spots and gave them ample room yet they still ate eachother.

BTW just because it was my first post here donesn't mean im new to this!

I wasn't being aggressive towards you, i was just saying that pretty much wherever you look, everywhere says that they are not communal.
So i cannot see where you read up on this sp.

"Communal: Yes (provide a larger tank for communal set-ups) "

http://venomlist.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18180&st=0&gopid=202488&#entry202488

"For a couple the enclosure should be at least 60x40x30 cm (24x16x12 inch). Floor space is more important then height. Frequently smaller enclosure are adviced, but it's better to give them a change of making a burrow which suits their needs. Therefore they need space. Make sure there is a hiding place for each individual in one enclosure."

there are a few references for you, all of which say it is possible. even you yourself said less commuinal and now you are saying not communal.

i researched it and gave it a try and lost some.....live and learn. just reporting some of my findings. didn't expect to have to prove my knowledge...LMAO

I've never read up on caresheets for this species, but I'd only seen anecdotal evidence that ended with tankmates getting eaten (possibly 'cause failures get reported more than successes).

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I found out the hard way that V. spinigerus aren't so communal, either -- and half the sources I read said they were.

I was not testing you on your knowledge, i was mearly saying if you would have looked at other sources including this site for example, then you would have found out straight away.
Therefore your background reading cannot have been very thorough. That was my point.

ive herd a couple of people having sucess with them. IMO the tank needs to be larger than most can provied with piles of debris for them to hide in.

right, sorry, wasnt in the best of moods and all the forums seem to be getting people trying to cause controversy and make an argument, i thought you were but after reading through i see your not.

i would have thought in a large tank they would just make territories and get into a fight every now and then, not kill each other. how big was this tank?

not sure of the exact size. ill have to measure it. i think in both cases it was one particular animal. its hard to tell though. ill have to pull it out and see the remainder is male or female. the one i traded was a female and was gravid. from what i have read, females seem to be a little more territorial.

especially gravid ones! i wouldnt be surprised if the other is too. even in emps gravid females kill tank mates. that could well be where it all went wrong.
