Just some newb questions.

What is this dwa licence I keep reading about and do you have to have them in the U.S. ? What other scorpions are easy for beginners to keep, something that will sting it's prey, and where can I get one ? My cousin is coming up from Houston soon and I asked him to catch me a scorpion from around there but he said he wouldn't know where to look, I don't either but I'm sure one of you guys will.

Yes they do (Hadrurus sp.) and they do it quite well

I've owned two and I've never seen them sting T_T

Never seen them go after prey either, they probably just eat behind my back lol
I got so bored of my last one, just traded it with my friend for an emperor scorpion.
I mean, it was pretty active, dug a heck of a lot, but I like tropical sp. more I've noticed.

So far I am really impressed with my emp. She eats like a beast and is fairly active and aggressive

I still recommend Desert Hairy scorps though, I think i've just had really bad luck

Man, that guy must look like a balloon ! lol. Mine's still fasting, almost six weeks he hasn't ate. His sides aren't even white anymore, they're almost black. Getting a bit worried.

Black and not white? Do you mean the membrane's not visible, or is the membrane now black? Either of those isn't a very good sign.

What are your conditions like?

I'm assuming he means that the membrane is becoming less visible as it is getting thinner. So, it appears as though the black colouring of the scorp is joining together.

Am i right??

That's not very common in scorpions unless they've just molted or given birth, even if they're fasting. That's why I was wondering what the conditions were -- perhaps they're not conducive to a healthy scorpion.

(Not jumping to conclusions or accusing the OP of bad husbandry or anything. )

Not quite binksyboy, the membrane itself is dark, not white like it used to be. He just quit eating, hasn't got much thinner. I found him saturday having another seizure type episode so that's still going on, but I didn't expect it to stop immediately. But he still seems alot happier with the peat soil and he's not as dry looking since Mr. Mordax told me how to keep the humidity up better. Tonight I seen him getting a drink and he's been exploring around with his claws open. Hopefully good signs !!! And, could you be a bit more specific Mr. Mordax, you're advice has helped alot, so what would you like to know about the conditions ? But I'm wondering if the damage isn't already done, he was on potting soil for quite some time.

I will tomorrow, sad but true, I need my gf to help me post pics and she's already out for the night. I don't get along well with computers. lol. I've made it this far though !

Well, you say you're keeping the humidity up, and that's the first concern that came to mind. I wonder if that "seizure" thing it's experiencing is related to a darkening membrane.

I'm not sure what effect the fertilizers in potting soil would have, to be honest.

Anywho, if you have trouble posting pictures, upload a picture to a photo-hosting site (such as Photobucket), right-click the full-sized picture, select "copy image location" or "copy image URL," then paste the URL between [ img ] and [ /img ] (but with no spaces). The final product should look like

If you don't have an account with a website like that, we have our own image-hosting site built into the forum. Just click the icon above the reply box that shows a picture next to a flopppy disk and upload it there, then copy / paste the URL it spits out into the [img] tags.

This is what my gf says he looked like when I got him. After he was here feeding his sides (membrane) started turning white and she asked if he was turning colors ? Don't remember what they (pet store ) had him on but she thinks it was wood chips. I've wanted one since I my cuz had one when we were teens, he had his on white sand with nothing but a black light, no extra heat (cool room too), it lived for several years till he put a crawfish the same size in with it, so I'm pretty ignorant ! Glad you think he's healthy !!!

I don't think you're the ignorant one; it sounds like your cousin is (hopefully "was").

By the way, I think I'll add that your scorp doesn't look too skinny either. Nice and healthy-looking specimen.
