| Just need a quick ID, went to reptile shop (they all seem to be pretty rubbish from reviews i seen from you lot so just adding to list)
Went to buy 2 scorps today, my flat rock which she is coming along nicely and this one, in there they called it a "Israeli gold scorpion" They took the flatrock out and packaged it for me, went to take otherone out, and sure enough it was dead. I took a few photos just wondering if someone could get me a latin name as i would still like to get one sometime, thanks

| high chance they didnt know it was a centruroid if the seller to them labeled it as the rough label of an S.Maurus, don't think scorpio spp is on the DWA list, or i could be wrong. | |

| the DWA list has a bunch of scorpions that aren't potentionally dangerous, pretty much only because they are in the Buthid class. C. Gracilis are about a 3.5/5 from what i've heard, decent venom potency with a reported LD 50 value of 2.7 mg/kg. | |

| As Chrome said, all the DWA-listed scorpions are on the list because they're Buthids (family, by the way, not class -- the relevant class is Arachnida), and of the whole huge family of Buthidae, only a handful are dangerous. While there's a couple of dangerous Centruroides spp., C. gracilis is not one of them. And as Jordan said, if you do get one, don't go parading around that you've got it (unlike some members I can think of). (By the way, nice word choice Jordan ) US hobbyists have been known to have the government come knocking on their door after posting about illegal arthropod collections, so gov officials DO check these forums. | |

| Just to say if i would of bought it and kept it NOT knowing that it was on the DWA list, surely then the shop would get in trouble for mistaken identity of the scorpion? | |

Dude, I guess the reason the C.gracilis was dead, was the desert conditions it was kept in? what a doss shop. I reckon if by some fluke a defra bod did come and check out your invert collection, and then only if they had any idea what scorps were on the schedule, trust me they seem not to know, i think they would have had tried to hold you responsible. so I reckon you were right in saying you were lucky dude. would have been a really cool scorp to keep though. best, G | |
