Genus: Vaejovis

Species: N/A

Common Name(s): Most have no common name but some such as V.spinigerus have official common names in the U.S.
V.spinigerus: Arizona Stripedtail Scorpion (official), Devil Stripedtail Scorpion, Devil Scorpion
LOCATION: North America: Mexico and USA (California, Arizona, Nevada, & New Mexico). These scorpions inhabit dry substrate of all kinds but usually not found in overly sandy areas (beaches, deserts).

Substrate: Dry substrate of any kind but avoid using only sand. I recommend a combination of about 75 percent dry peat with 25 percent sand.

LD value: Varies from species but this genus is not know for a medically significant venom. Stings do tend to be rather painful with some species.

Type of Scorpion; Dry burrower/ Rock Dweller: Does not dig tunnels but will make its own hides. Usually under rocks.

Adult size: Usually about three inches

Growth: Medium

Temp: 78-88F But can handle low temps.

Humidity:55-65(just dry substrate)

Temperament: Can very but usually very nervous.

Decorations: Any kind of rock it can dig under to make burrow. Usually a flat rock works best to allow for mating. But a flat piece of cork works just as well

Communal: Sometimes(depends on species as well); ; but if adults. Juveniles might cannibalize during molting periods. Some species have been known to canabalize with no molting involved. Be sure to add plenty of hides if you are going to take that risk.

Housing: Floor space is important If housing one a Kritter Keeper can be used I recommend a min of a 5 gallon for 2-3 scorpions and a ten for 5-8. They also like to burrow so a minimum of 3 inches of substrate is recommended. For hides just throw in rocks large enough to cover the scorpion they will make they're own burrow.

I'd like to add that I had one female (possibly adult) cannibalize two younger tankmates in the space of about a week, with no molting involved. Some keepers do not have good success keeping Vaejovis spp. communally while others do.

I'll change that. Thanks I guess it also depends on species.

As lon as you keep it dry then it is okay. I keep some desert species of scorpions on coco fiber anyways
