 dead or molting?

my scorpion is stiff,not moving and its tail is upright. is it dead or molting? how could i tell? please help.

If the tail is upright, as in above the ground, I don't know what's wrong. If the tail is sticking straight out, it's dead.

If it's stiff, my best guess is it's been dead long enough to dry out.
