Tank turning into a cricket colony... Empty
PostSubject: Tank turning into a cricket colony...   Tank turning into a cricket colony... Empty8/22/2009, 4:01 pm

Well then I just peeked in my tank (10 gal, 1 Emp.) And realized that there are a ALOT of crickets in it...

Being that my scorpion is done molting as far as I am aware (her stinger is brown and she hasn't molted since I got her 6months ago), is it a danger to let the crickets do their thing in there?

I see several full grown crickets and tons of little tiny crickets, they seem to have established a colony UNDER the waterbowl...

As far as I see my scorpion is just chilling underneath the half co co nut as usual.

Thoughts?

It's pretty useless to have a cricket colony in your tank intentionally -- the crix require lots of food and produce lost of waste (imagine having a cattle ranch in your living room).

Leave the adults in for prey (if your scorpion needs them, anyway -- take 'em out if they're not eaten in a day or two), but remove the little ones because they're too small to be useful prey items.

There's a few ways to remove them:
Let them die on their own (contributes mess, may stress scorp in the meantime)
Let them drown in the water bowl (have to remember to empty)
Put in drinking straws plugged at one end and remove them as they hide in it

Alright I think I'm going to get a couple tubes of little straws and maybe a bathroom tissue one tomorrow and set it up.

Thanks for the advice Smile.
