Are you sure that's a versi? Looks a lot more like A. metallica.

Haven't Avicularia metallica got pinker toes and a more blue abdomen?

No, the color is all wrong for it to be A. versicolor.

Lori's adult female A. versicolor:
http://funnylori.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=Avicularia&id=versifresh
(They get that color by the size you're at -- prior to that, they're bright metallic blue)

Lori's (now mine) adult female A. metallica:
http://funnylori.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=Avicularia&id=DSCN6763

Toes are pinker than yours, so maybe it's neither species.

i've had a couple versi's from sling to just past that stage...about 2-3 inches, i think (one died though).
anyways, the colour of mine at that intermediate stage doesn't look too disimilar from what you've posted, Kuma, though mine are showing more purplish colouration, already, at a slightly smaller size.
however i don't know if mine are the so-called large form or small form, if there's any legitimacy in those descriptions.
in that pic, it looks like the legs and abdomen are fairly black. can you see sparse reddish setae?
at any rate, it should become fairly clear whether or not it's a versi in a couple moults.
honestly, i would recommend getting them as slings, the colour changes are fun to watch it go through.

Well, whatever it is, it's still a cool T. Very Happy

And Graham, I think I heard that hybrids have even been known to occur in nature with this genus . . . making proper IDs all the more challenging. Razz

Definitely A. versicolor -- weird, as I've never seen one the color as yours. Maybe between adult and juvenile colorforms? scratch
