PostSubject: Hadrurus arizonensis sealed off burrow   7/2/2009, 4:49 am

My Hadrurus arizonensis was looking a bit podgey when i looked in on it yesterday, was thinking maybe its about to molt, but then when i looking for it today it has sealed itself in its burrow.

Its burrow comprises of three entrances and all three are sealed.

Is this normal behavior?

Yes. Maybe he/she has gone down to moult. Just wait it out.
Scorpions do this sort of thing, just like tarantulas do when they dont want to be disturbed.
Wait on nature. When he/she is ready they will dig out again...if no sign in a month I would do some digging, careful digging but until then its the waiting game

Ok thanks Connie, suppose i gotta wait it out.

I hope one large scorpion comes out, and not 30 tiny ones lol

my huge fat female is digging like mad! last count 6 entrances and they all interlink!

Still not certain if she is just greedy or gravid. Oh well we will find out in about 4 weeks time.

Hey guys, this is a little off topic, but i didn't want to make a whole new H. arizonensis thread

I'd like to ask how long fasting periods are for H. arizonensis. I recently bought one and it hasn't eaten for about 2 weeks now.

ANY form of fasting for a scorpion is NORMAL.
Weeks to months can be very very normal.

I have 2 H. arinzonensis and from time to time they seal themselves off for weeks... then they appear and all is good. They tend to do this when (1) they're molting or (2) when the are about to give birth. Just leave them alone, they'll be fine. These are a very hardy species Smile
