PostSubject: is this wise?   6/27/2009, 11:58 am

Some of you may know I'm decided to get a few Emperor Scorpions. I was on a website and saw this http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productdetails.php?ProductID=198&ProductGroupID=114. I was wondering if this could work in a scorpion tank?

or would this be better? http://www.888reptiles.co.uk/productdetails.php?ProductID=1441&ProductGroupID=696

The only problem with this kind of device is that I find it can make the tank pretty soggy very quickly.

Tried the 'fogger' unit ages ago and it made my substrate all fusty after a while. I only use these in my water dragon tank purely because the tank is sooo huge and air circulates pretty good in there so the substrate doesn't turn into a peat bog lol.

To use these and get the most out of them you would need excellent ventilation... but that can sometimes take the humidity out.

I've seen it been used for monitor lizards.
The thing people bring up with scorpions is the vibration.

Personally, I'd try it out.

Scorpion don't like vibration?

not really... vibration is mostly how they catch their food. excess vibration drives them nuts!

^^ they hate black sabbath xD

tbh, you'd be MUCH better off not buying any of that stuff. if you want tot keep the tank humid, dump some water right into the substrate. if the substrate is moist, your fine.

they work really well. possibly too well my Hets love it so much they rarely venture to the surface, apart from sit in the entrance waiting for food.

another question/thought. Would I be able to have two different species like, Emperor and maybe some bark scorpions if I divided my tank using some insulation between 2 glass plates? Since they need different humidity levels. Kinda make two tanks outta one. Or am I being to complicated. My reason is I have a 30gal. tank and having one scorpion would be weird in that big a tank. I think I'm being complicated. I get bored and think about stuff like that.

it would be ok as long as you completely separate the two sides from the top to the bottom of the tank so that the bark scorps can't get to the emps.

However, the different humidities could pose a problem.

I recommend not getting the two different species and not separating the tank. You should just get one communal species and to get a few of them. But that's my opinion, hopefully the others can give you theirs as well.

I had thought about the humidity and am thinking it could work if I cover half of one side of the tank with plastic wrap, I read that it really helps to keep humidity levels, and for the bark scorpions no plastic wrap. The Emperor side would have enough ventilation to keep the humidity where it needs to be, and without plastic wrap on the other side would let the moisture out. I have a single hood for the tank, I think IF I do this I'll get two smaller hoods instead. Would probably help with maintaining the different humidity levels.

i have sectioned off tanks, one for the hets and one for my desert species. you are better off keeping similar humidity scorps in one of these tanks rather than trying to create different humidities in close proximity.

A divided tank with Heterometrus sp. on one side and P. imperator on the other would work fine. Smile
