Over the past few weeks or so I've been noticing that my Heterometrus hasn't been that happy with the way that his enclosure's been set up. He kept moving the hide here and there and as I finally noticed, seemingly trying to get it further away from the heatmat... So a week ago I decided to take action, do some re-arranging and put the hide backing into a cool corner of the tank with a heap of substrate over the end (now it looks like it's a cave going into a little hill).
Well, he loves it! I woke up the next day to see heaps of excavated substrate all over the tank and if I shine a torch down into the hide I can just about see him chilling out at the end (well his chela really
). He's extended a tunnel quite far down past the hide and dug out a little 'room' down there.
He definitely looks happier and quickly tucked into a cricket that I sent down the tunnel (he hasn't really eaten anything over the last month). So now I have a very contented pet hole
probably won't see that much of him from now on but I'm happy too, it's good to know that I have a happy scorp!
