im getting a desert hairy and all of the websites i have been to tell me completely different things. the big difference between most of the sites is some say a small shallow dish of water overnight once or twice a week is good. but others warn against putting any water in the habitat. right now my set up is a 10gal with about 3in of desert sand, a hollowed out coconut shell and a small slate rock to also provide shelter. ive got the temp just about right but i would like to kno if theres anything else i need to add to it and what should the humidity be

A water dish isn't necessary. The only moisture I would suggest using (if any) is misting one corner of the tank from time to time, but never the whole thing.

Also, if you want to improve your habitat, deepen the sand and mix it with something a little thicker so it can support burrows. The best burrow-holding substrate I've seen is 30% Excavator clay and 70% sand, mixed, wetted, and allowed to dry.

Yeah no water, they gain what they need from their prey/food..

I have a male, keep him in that fine silver sand, he is pretty industrious & comes out every night & re-arranges the substrate Rolling Eyes , he is the most active scorpion i have kept, though not so at night...enjoy Wink

Ive had my H. Arizonensis for bout 2 years and all ive done water wise was spray the side wall. Which is on rare occasion really. Honestly cant remember last time I have sprayed in his tank. They get what they need from their food
All I did for substrate was put about 2 inches of sand in from the desert. (dunes sand)
Spray it let it dry and harden, repeat. I prolly got more then enough sand, its about 6 inches but the burrows are great, More then half the habitat is burrows and tunnels.
Be sure to bake the sand first tho just to be on the safe side...
I also sifted it thru a screen to remove all the beer glass and junk

mine has a good 4" of substrate but I built up the back using broken stone and packed it all in with some more sand, so it tunnels in and out of them Very Happy

if you happen to get a Juv. humidity might be a problem. I usually spray just a tiny bit of water under a hide and give them multiple hides so they can choose the humidity
