Scorp ID needed

Can anyone ID the species and sub species of this little (about 1/2 an inch) guy? These were found at Otay Lake near the US/Mexico border near San Diego. They were found on the hill sides around Otay Lake under rocks in semi damp soil conditions, none found were over an inch long.

From the tail, I'd guess some sort of Vaejovid. I couldn't tell you anything more.

Yeah I've got that far, I was hoping with the info on exactly where it was collected could help with a full ID... I take it many sub species overlap ranges?

This was collected in the same local, U. mordax...

by the size of their tails i would hazard a guess at some sort of Vaejovidae... i will go check the scorpionfiles to see if i can find a match...

I think we need some clearer pics, it would help ALOT.

I'm not aware of a lot of subspecies of scorpions -- where the name goes Genus species subspecies, like Hadrurus arizonensis pallidus -- but Hoffimanus and Vaejovis are quite large genera.

Scorpio, I don't know if it would be that species considering the locale. I found those guys in west Texas.

Yes. Yes I would. I didn't know U. mordax was found that far south.

I made a big mistake, it is A. pococki I was just corrected on another forum, so its not U. mordax..Sry..

And as far as closer pics, this is as good as I can get. It is about 3/4 of an inch long and my camera doesnt zoom any more.. (I cropped down to get these..)

No worries, they're pretty similar genera. At least this explains why it was found so far south.

Sorry I can't provide any more information on the Vaejovids.

Paruroctonus gracilior - "Paruroctonus thus
currently includes 29 species and 4 subspecies, all fossorial and most

No its not a P. Gracilior hence the laymen name Chihuahuan Slendertailed Scorpion the one in his picture has a much wider tail then that of a slender tail. my guess is a Centruroides vittatus but I'm probably very wrong.

Centruroides sculpturatus is also another educated guess.

Those aren't buthids; we've narrowed it down to vaejovids long ago.

You got A. pococki right.

Your other specimens look to be (and coincide in regards to locality) Serradigitus g. gertschi.
