Getting an Avicularia versicolor Empty
PostSubject: Getting an Avicularia versicolor   Getting an Avicularia versicolor Empty5/19/2009, 4:30 am

After falling in love with a beautiful Avicularia versicolor at the BTS show I searched high and low for one.
I'll be getting a young one of about 1.5cm and cant wait for it to arrive.

Who has kept them and can i have some info about thier care please.

I have 2 slings, gorgeous, very willing to try and escape, eat well.

LOTS of ventilation and good humidity and you will be fine!

PostSubject: Re: Getting an Avicularia versicolor   Getting an Avicularia versicolor Empty5/19/2009, 5:26 am

I did a bit of research on these when I was deciding on my first T and I think the general idea is to keep them quite warm with high humidity and LOTS of good ventilation. I saw quite a few photos of slings being kept in small, tall-ish plastic containers with large numbers of air holes at the top and low down on the sides.

But this is what I've read. I'm sure there are lots of people here that know more about these on a more practical level... Smile

I also own one and I keep it in a verticle tererrarium. They are sooo quick and they jump and I swear its pooped at me. Besides being a bit skiddish mine is fairly docile and absolutely beautiful. Enjoy

I got one at BTS on Sunday. She is in a tall container with a vertical strip of corkbark sitting on about an inch layer of damp peat mulch, rather like you would keep your forest spec. Scorps in. Loads of holes in screwtop, I was told she would heavily web out the container but so far just a few threads on the substrate. She spends most of the time on the tank side near the top looking down, they can walk up glass with no problems at.all. Good eater too

ENJOY

we had a male Avic avic we went to do a bit of maintenance one day and he shot out. I swear all that was missing was the benny hill theme tune as we chased the little fella about the front room!

A sub adult female, Lee at S.Shop reckoned she might grow another inch in diameter including legs. She is a beautiful colour, an iridescent orange with pink toe tips. Lisa is right about them moving fast & escaping, she has already ran up my arm! They can jump & can eject faeces at you if scared. Not aggressive though, just skittish...

Yeah i fell in love with them at Lee's table, there was one particular specimen that was outstanding, it was love at first sight! Lisa's mate brought that one Sad

Bear in mind thats Lee's were wild caught so some of them had a rougher apeparence which will shine after thier next shed

I see what you mean! They are smaller than my fingernail, were crawling up my arm, round the back and right up my t-shirt sleeve Shocked I has to carefully take off my t-shirt and give it a shake lol
