Plus does anyone have a pic of the pectines of this species so i can sex it easily when its big enough?

cheers.

P.S I know its probably the wrogn section to ask but i dont have tiem to make antoher topic, i noticed a slight fur on my locusts that i use for feeders and was wondering what it was, ive never noticed it before is it possible its some kind of quarticeps fungus and wil it harm my scorps, or have i just been daft n never noticed before? Those of us stateside don't know how big a 5P piece is (even me, who's been to the UK once Razz). That being said, I've seen a wide variety of adult sizes in this species (or at least scorps CLAIMED to be this species).

Anywho, to sex it, males have pectines like /\ and females have pectines like / \. Hope that helps.

No idea on the locust thing.

as for the locust.. sounds nasty lol. I wouldn't use them if they have things growing out them.

^Could just be sensory hairs, then.

The scorps in this first picture were all sold to me as Vaejovis spinigerus (prior to the much-debated name change) in February 2008. The one in the upper right had a brood last September and one of the two smallest ones is currently visibly gravid, without having molted in that time period.

Here's a picture of that larger female in a Kritter Keeper to hopefully demonstrate her size relative to the others.

I hope that gives you an idea of the variation of adult size.

Disclaimer: These were sold to me as V. spinigerus -- I don't know enough about this genus to rule out misidentifications or mislabelings.

yup they all look like H. Spinigerus to me, how big is that pet keeper btw?

Also is that damp coco fibre the ones in the 1st pic are kept on cause im keeping mines on dry calci sand, is that right?

And what is the name thats generally used today Vaejovis or Hoffmanius, i prefer hoffmanius causei tm eans i can call my scorp "The Hoff" Razz:P

After a wee google search i found the scorpion files page on Vaejovis Spinigerus: http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/v_spinigerus.htm

It says that a BIG females gets to 70mm and hte average is 55-60mm

Hmm, I guess I had one "mega" female and one "travel-sized" female. Razz (Eddy has the mega now, 'cause he guessed the day she had her brood but they were all stillborns.)

The KK in the pic is the smallest size they come in, around three or four inches on the narrow side.

And that was just how the coco was when I bought them at a show (from Ken the Bug Guy, if anyone's wondering). It was a little on the humid side but I wouldn't say it was damp.
