it all started so promisingly, got the "kiss" and everything but for some reason it broke up, so i decided to leave them overnight to see if they might change their minds whilst i wasn't watching, and the male decided to change tactics, maybe he thought a bit of metasoma chopping might get her in the mood.
it didnt and now he is on the naughty step and she is in the freezer Sad

omg. I guess she wasnt fully receptive to him then, she changed her mind and over night they had a fight and he won Sad
I dont like the death image though. I wont edit it because its nothing "gory" but none the less I never liked images of dead scorpions for whatever reason.

Harsh! Crying or Very sad

I'm having a hard time telling in that lighting if this was P. imperator or P. cavimanus -- if it was the former, that's a bit of a shock; the latter, I guess this is a solid example of "no, they're not very communal."

I read that a female p.cav will kill the male after mating? and I thought P.imps were communal

they don't always kill the male after mating. it all depends on what the female wants do (most of the time) usually the male will make a speedy getaway..

I thought you could keep h.spins together? I was planning on getting a friend for my giant forest scorpion.

most people keep this species communally without any troubles, but with ANY species "communal" or not, there is ALWAYS a chance of canibalism.

For most Heterometrus spp. the risk is small enough for it to be worth setting up a community. IMO, communal tanks are a lot more interesting.
