Ok so I bought a new baby Red Claw and the tank I got was a friends who had previously some type of reptile. I vigorously washed the tank with scaulding hot water and prepared the babies habitat. Should i have cleaned it some other way? or not use it at all.

A good washing is all you need.

I was always told never to use soap though should I re-wash it with soap or am I good?

Who told you never to use soap?

Just about any cleaner is fine as long as you remove any residue. I usually just use water 'cause most biological wastes (poo) are water-soluble, but I've used soap to no ill effect. Just rinse it out well when you're done.

yes but a good scrub and drying out of the tank should get rid of unwanted pests. no matter how hard you clean you will always get some mites. its an annoying part of the hobby!
But they can be kept in check.

Predatory mites! They eat the bad ones. Very Happy

(If it's a little speck running around, it's a predatory mite -- bad ones are tiny and don't move much.)

yeah, try and find a few (you can coax them out with a dead criket in a low ventilated box with hardly and humidity)

If you don't have the bad mites, then you don't need to worry about anything.

Remember, mites in general occur practically everywhere on the planet, so you're going to wind up with one species or another (or two, or twenty) no matter what you do.

the only scorpions i have owned that died from an abundance of mites were old ones that were on their way out anyway. scorpions do a pretty good job of flicking them off.

I Don't think they seriouslt affect them.. they don't seem to move around much or cause disturbance. but I can imagine them carrying certain things that aren't good for your scorp.

All I do when I clean out my glass tanks is take the garden hose and give it a good spray for a couple of minutes. Now when I'm changing my snake's bedding, I usually clean it out with rubbing alcohol and then let it dry out real good & then I put the new bedding in.

None of that will prolly help but I felt like talking a bit Razz

Brandon's use of isopropanol for snake tanks is probably a good idea as they're more prone to mite problems . . . but with scorpions it's not such a common problem.

Good mites? I find them in almost every tank.

Bad mites? It happens, but in my observations it's quite rare. I've never encountered them in my collection.
