PostSubject: Well past due enclosure   Well past due enclosure Empty2/16/2009, 1:35 am

Unfortunately I am a bad pet caregiver. I have been waiting for months to build a new enclosure for my Nile Monitor. Fortunately I just acquired the $300+ it will cost to build it. On a whim this morning my dad and I started building this beast.

The dimensions are 4' x 4' x 6 1/2'. This enclosure is sort of shaped like superman's symbol and the enclosure itself it only 4' high. None the less here are some pics of the progress. The guy in the pics is my pops in case you were wondering.

Thanks, I plan too. This is just the start of the shelf system I showed you guys a while ago. Each shelf will connect to this enclosure and each will be 16" deep. It will wrap around the entire room.

Yesterday I finished filling in all the cracks. Tonight I will probably be painting the inside with a high gloss exterior black paint. I'm not sure what the vapors will be like or if I need to move the animals out. After that the cage will be getting a couple polyurethane coats and then black silicon in the corners to seal it. I also need to pick up a 48" UVB fixture and proper heating source. Nile monitors tend to like 110F. I will post pics later tonight or tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay in written back, but in the process of building this enclosure I met a guy, apparently I went to school with, that wanted to get rid of his 9ft Redtail Boa. Well the cage I got him in was not big enough so I decided to build a new cage for him as well. Then I said screw it and I decided to build the rest of the room. Here is the progress so far.

Monitor cage with shelves to the right for scorpions. To the far left is where my Redbelly will go.

The middle will be the redtail boa's new home. With shelf room for my other snakes.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this week I will get around to sealing all the cracks and putting on the primer in the two enclosures. I also have a lot of trim that is going up on all the ends of the plywood. I was also debating on making the shelve above the boa into another enclosure for my ball pythons. I've always read that it is bad to put snakes together but I'm still contemplating because this is such a docile species. What do you guys think? I also need to figure out the lighting situation. I might just do internal with a screen.

Well I'm making some good forward progress so far. Today I primed and painted the enclosures and my dad clear coated all the shelves. I still have to put a polyurethane coat inside the enclosures, install trim and then the glass.

Yesterday I ended up buying another snake. This beauty is an albino tiger retic. I picked her up for $400 and he came with a 2x2x2 Vision cage. He is 3 months old and already over 3 feet long. So needless to say I turned the shelf about the boas enclosure into another enclosure. Here are some current pics.

I know it is hard to grasp the size of this setup but the rooms dimensions are 12 x 9 ft. The monitors cage is 4x4x6 1/2 ft and the boas cage is 4x6x3.

Well its been a while since I've been on here. I've been busy with about a hundred and one different things. My animal room is almost complete. This weekend a filled the 100 gallon tank and moved all the animals in a semi-permanent location. Next I have to buy about a million pounds of substrate and put the glass on the other two enclosure I built.
