Hadogenes paucidens Empty
PostSubject: Hadogenes paucidens   Hadogenes paucidens Empty3/8/2009, 2:46 pm

I watch the forum everyday but due to lack of time i don't get to post.

Yesterday i went to a pet shop to get a bigger uv lamp for my iguanas and i saw a hadogenes paucidens, which i bought Surprised !!
I have given her a mealworm and she grabbed it at once, but i think she is a bit fat..Photo of her will be posted later, from when i bought her.
I'd like to know if there is some kind o f glue that is not toxic for the scorp,so that i could glue the stones together..
I have also read many things about humidity. How much is fine?
Finally,i'd like to thank Mr.Mordax for his tips.
Any info will be deeply appreciated!!!!

Humidity seems to be better (in small amounts) for juveniles in that it helps a bit with molting. Adults have been known to drink from a water dish. My advice is to mist one corner of the enclosure one a week or so, but not any more often than that.

For gluing stones together I'd go with aquarium-grade silicone. Just make sure it's completely dry before putting it in the enclosure.

Hadogenes paucidens Sp_a0310

Here is the pic after the pet(sorry for the quality).I don't want toupset the animal for now..
Silicone is a very good idea.
If i use sand for chinchillas will it be ok?
Or aquarium gravel?
All of which combined with humus(dry).
If it is not ok i will buy the type of sand you suggested me.

The sand for the chinchillas should be fine as long as it's not too dusty. I wouldn't use gravel.

reptile sand can be quite expensive for what it is.
good substitutes are childrens play sand, or silver sand from your local building supplies depot
If using silver sand, you may want to clean it first. But I have never had any problems shoving it straight in once it has dried.

These are a fantastic big scorpion, one of my favourite species, just watch those pincers lol. congrats on the new addition Smile

Thank you very much! How can i ask for the type of sand that is clear and safe for the animal?
I will most probably buy chinchilla sand(not used of course)..If i use humus brick with it will it have any difference of coconut?
Also how much should i put in there?
And finally, how am i going to acquire the type of stone you have told me?(slate)
Thank you and i hope i have not bored you Very Happy

Dry coconut fiber works fine too. I've used sand from a garden center for potting cacti in and it worked well.

Not sure where to find slate -- I know some people who picked it up from a company that sells rocks for flooring, and I think you can find it at home improvement stores. I went cheap and used fake slate coasters.

go to any pond / gardening centre. there are usually some big decorative slate rocks there.

then it's simply a case of getting a hammer and chisel and splitting it along the layered edge. splits very easily (remember to wear eye protection though)

then from those big sheets. smack it in the middle with the hammer and chisel to make the pieces smaller as required.

What I used to do was spend an hour building it up on the table so there were lots of nooks and crannies for the scorp to hide in, then siliconing it all together from the top down.

i finally built the scrp's space.
However, i am still looking for sand...Can i use coco fibre (dried) alone?
I also built a kind of hiding spots for the scorp.I don't think the silicon is toxic (it says it is for aquariums)..
Here are some pics, tell me if it is ok so that i can put these all together..

Yes, dry coco alone is fine.

The hides look good. Smile

Thank you!
I shall be putting these in in a sec.
I was thinking of cutting a big proportion of the "roof" and replace it with screen mesh, for better ventilation.Or should i just keep to the holes i have made ?
