PostSubject: Hadogenes Paucidens from congo?   2/15/2009, 5:25 pm

Just looking thru The Scorpion Fauna website and in his "origins" section i looked at the list for the congo and Hadogenes Paucidens was there, does that mean that it should be kept a relatively high humidity or what? and also I thought they came from the drier south of africa? or can they be found i na variety of environments?

Hadogenes for sure occurs in southern Africa, but I'm not sure of the range of the genus. Either way, people have been more or less successful when keeping this species in dry, rocky habitats.

what do you think would happen if you were to raise the humidity or keep them on damp substrate almost like emps?

It would probably make any mycosis a lot easier to set in, for one thing. I'm not sure exactly what happens when you put a species from a dry environment into a humid one.

yeah there probably would be a problem with mycosis what want to know is how come mycosis only happens to deserty species (from what i hear) because iven ever heard of an Emp or AFS getting it and they come from steamrooms lol obviously its some evolutionary adaptation that prevents it mayeb some chemical they have i ntheir bodies or something i dunno.

If an animal evolves in a climate that favors fungal growth, then they're going to adapt defenses for it.

I have heard of far to many people keeping hadogenes on moist substrate and losing them, if, indeed, this is to mycosis it would be hard to spot as they are a pretty dark scorpion in the first place.

They also get the majority of their fluid intake from what they eat so would i be right in presuming that deaths would have also occurred from 'drowning' in the humidity????
(I know there is a more specific name for this but a cant seem to think of the word for the life of me!)

I used to keep my adult female in a 2ft tank and once a week, misted the far side (away from the hide) she would occasionally drink the droplets and it dried out pretty quick as well
