I figure once the young have left and she's put some weight back on it should be fine -- though I've seen photos of bark scorpions mating while the female still had first instars on her back.

"Eww, mom!!!!" Razz

how long have i been waiting for slings? the scorpion maurus still aint popped. I lost the gravid keyserlingi's.

just hope to see signs of the het. madras' being gravid

anyway... mum iomachus has been doing the rounds making sure nothing is going to get her babies. which is quite funny because now she walks around with her peds in the air.

The babies are starting to go nice and dark, they all still appear to be on mum's back. Looking forward to their first shed. Smile

mum appears to have got a bit peckish and has scoffed about half of the brood.

But could possibly be that she may have been freaked out by kids running around. Do i put a cricket in in case it is hunger?
When I have bred species before I only fed the female after the kids had come off the back.

maybee put something like a waxworm in, then it wont be as irritating as a cricket if she doesnt want it and wax worms are just blobs of fat and protien so good if she hasnt eaten in months! Very Happy

That really sucks, Lisa. No Probably stress from kids -- I found out on VL just how bad stress can be for a mother scorp. (Neighbors fireworks + birthing emp = bad.)

So, tell your kids to behave or you'll hide a brachy in their underwear drawer!

oh no Sad
but then again, i had my het mum in the kitchen! music playing, banging pots etc. talking...me singing when cooking Laughing we had no other option but for her to be in there because we didnt have the invert room and were just trying to find space and she didnt eat her young.

Dont think your kids did it...she did it because maybe she was a young mum, first brood and not as maternal as she should be

i know i am so close to converting all my big aquariums into compartments so its easier to cover sections up and generally tidy the place up!
Freeing up some heat mats so i can sort out a 'maternity' area upstairs and it's all gone to pot! My dad in law is picking up the glass for the aquarium today as well!, but i guess these things are sent to try us!

oh well hopefully a few will survive... i'll bang the male back in once she has fattened up and try again, i hope she is not to old!

anyway I will keep you all updated!

yeah it happened before i was all prepared! will be better next time once i have the 'maternity suite' set up.... basically a 3ft tank that i will get some more frosted glass to create separate compartments, should be able to house 3-4 pregnant females in depending on the size of scorp.
(using frosted glass so daylight gets through the tank better but also masks off the scorpion next door!)

I know these things happen! but I have been out of breeding scorpions for 3 years so something like this was bound to happen! Experience and all that! Plus I have 2 more kids than last time lol!

Gutted yes but the experience has made me more determined to get the housing side of the hobby sorted out. If she had held on just two weeks it would have all been sorted!

anyway we are down to 5 slings left on her back Sad I'm really hoping they shed chuffing quickly so I can get them out before any more get troughed!
