Even more babies! Babycurus jacksoni popped

Well, I got this B. jacksoni a few months back and it has steadily grown in size (thickness wise). I sexed it as female (easy with this species), and I kept thinking it was possibly gravid, but i althought thought maybe it isn't mature so it will moult, or maybe just fat.

Well, two nights ago I saw a very fat scorpion. Last night I was checking it and see a large number of babies on her back. Unfortunately she is in her hide which I cant move without disturbing her so no good pictures or accurate baby count yet, but I think this is a pretty good size brood.

I have a few other scorps that I think could be gravid as well so I might have more babies comming soon! This baby stuff is fun. I enjoyed the hobby before, but dang this is exciting!

This morning she was in the front area of her hide so I managed to snag a really out of focus picture. Based off of what I saw with my eyes she has a minimum of 20 babies, possiblly more.

This picture only shows the "top" of the stack.

mabye we are getting out of the "what's with all the death?" phase and back into the baby phase.

Update:
Babies are off of moms back and seperated out. It seems like they left the mother during the day. My count was much lower than anticipated. I only had 12 and in a picture the night before there was at least 15. So probably a few of the weaker babies became lunch. I had placed a couple a medium crickets in the enclosure to keep the mom full. She ate one. While I was taking the babies out I found this little 2i baby halfway eaten through the head of a medium cricket (4 times the size of the little guy). He must have been hungry!

All 12 babies did feed off of pinheads after seperation so it looks like they are all healthy.

Today's update:
All 12 are doing well (still 2i). No pictures yet. I may snap a couple tonight of the little ones.

The mother died as did one of the babies. Interestingly enough the baby that died was also the last baby to come off the moms back and was the most reluctant to take food.

But I did get a picture of one of the 2i babies

Looks really nice Sean...how are they doing now? I have a group of 3i...looks just like that pic Mine were born about the same time as yours.

Mine are 3/4 to 1 inch now and are eating really well..about 3 pinheads a week. I have them in individual containers with a piece of cork bark leaned against the side and a small rock flat on the coco fiber. They tend to either stay on the substrate or hang on the backside of the bark face down...This is the position they molt in apparently. Temps are kept 80F to 86F and there is condensation on the sides of the container. Just keeping half moist and half dry inside each one.

I would love to keep in touch as to when they molt to 4i and any other info. Good luck and I hope the brood is still doing well. It is just amazing to watch these guys feed...I am so happy with this species.

Aww! That makes me miss mine when they were at that instar.

I know...don't they look so bright! And fast lil guys...poor crickets don't know what hit 'em
