I've had a medium sized juvenile H. Paucidens since august and its never taken live prey that i can tell, Iafter it didnt feed for a month or so i tried hand feeding it but all it did was try and push the prey away the nafter a couple more moths i just left the dead prey in there and it ate it, but its only done this a few times the rest of the time it just leaves the prey where i left it.

It is slightly fat but its losing wieght now but very slowly, any idea why its not taking live prey?

Cheers. cheers

mabye it's just a "freak scorpion" you get them every now and then Razz

but Hadogenes species often have extremely slow metabolisms, I think someone told me it was slower than that of a vegetable. scratch 'course that depends on living conditions.

I wouldn't be surprised if this scorp fasts for a loooooong time. Smile

Ok, you know how you said your emperors have slow metabolisms a few minutes ago?

Hadogenes are like emps put in slow-motion.

By the way, what temperature are they at? That usually has an effect on metabolic activity.

Ok, so it's not eating from being too cold.

Don't worry 'bout it then.

Have the same problem with my paucidens. It hasn't eaten since we moved in to our new appartement in august. It actually ate while in the car on the way here, but nothing after. Temperature might be a little low, but all my other minions are eating well. Razz My juvenile B. Smithi and Albo are eating like crazy. Both take on live crickets the same size they are. The crickets don't stand a chance. Razz

my big female used to do that from time to time. have a couple of months of good eating then would go off her food for ages, then start back up again.

about as irritating as when a g.rosea does it!!! Bang Head

Have you tried varying the food at all? And how damp/dry is the enclosure?

but tbh it sounds like a typical paucidens Rolling Eyes

I have a V. puritanus that seems to be on a hunger strike. Kept with a light on most of the day. And I spray the enclosure once a week to keep it in desert like conditions.

Had 2 crickets die w/o even eating them, so I guess I'll toss in some food once every other week.

I've tried small locust hoppers, black and brown crickets even a waxworm, didnt take any live ones although it has taken the odd dead brown cricket. I spray the tub once a week and theres a lot of ventilation cause its ur typical pet keeperi'e more air holes than is actually needed lol

EDIT: Just checked my shipping record on the spider shop website and i actually got my paucidens on the 7th of july, so its been 6 months since i got it.

you don't need to spray the tub at all; just put a small water dish in.

This species requires almost no moisture. Just spray one half of the tank, and spray it lightly.

if i could suggest something only offer the water once a week, if any water at all, you could bring up the humidity too much in the terrarium, these guys get almost all of there hydration from there meals, they will drink the droplets off the glass when there misted if they really want a drink.
