Scorpio Maurus

Anyone here owns one or already did?? Can't find alot of info about this one. I would like to know about its venom, lifespan, enviroment and size. Found a couple of them, and i'm a little interested.

Cool, i was going to get it today, but that place is closed today. I read somewhere, that they live like a year or so, so I wasn't real sure about picking it up.

I think these guys have relatively short lifespans for scorpions, but I'm not sure.

I think Lisa has some experience with these guys.

NOT COMMUNAL lol! read a bit of bad info about these when i got them a few months ago. had 3, pregnant female killed the male! oops!

still finding out more info on these. but i have mine i layered substrate.
sand at bottom
50/50 sand/forest bed in middle
20/80 sand/forest bed at the top

****I dont know if this is a factor that makes a difference but after speaking to other people who have kept them and lost them after a short time, they had them on unlayered substrate and slowly died off. the sand at the bottom of my enclosures is slightly damp. and obviously dry at the top. and my females are active and doing well. like i said i dont know if this is a key factor to keeping them but worth baring in mind****

need a good 4" substrate. idealy let the substrate dry out before putting them in to assist burrowing. but a little dampened substrate will soon dry out if you have to put your scorpion in straight away. just refrain from misting until the substrate has dried out. only offer water bowl

have mine at about 26 degrees c daytime. 21 night

some stones/rocks for them to start burrowing under.

i have a water bowl in there but mist once a week at one end

about 50% humidity - usually room humidity anyway

feeding once a week 1 cricket no bigger than size of scorp body. they will gorge if you allow them so be careful about overfeeding

they can close off their entrances while they are burrowing in the substrate, do not worry they will pop up at the other end of the enclosure about a week or so later

moderately aggressive, will have a swipe at your fingers and jump for you too. so give the little fella some respect or you will be caught out.
not been stung myself but apparently they have quite a nasty sting.

I have had a Scorpio Maurus Fuscus for over two years now. Also have a Scorpio Maurus for nearly a year.

Both are excellent beautiful little scorpions, and really easy to look after.

i have keept them communal for over 1 year without no accidents and they was differnt sexs

There's a guy on bug nation that kept them communally and had a few loses from fighting etc think a couple others had the same problem, if u are gonna keep them comunally then make sure theres plenty of hides and PLENTY of food but acidents i suppose can still happen

P.S I've never kept these myself just tellin you what i've picked up from other people.

I started mine in a 3ft tank with 3 scorpio maurus. Loads of hides and pre-started tunnels... and the biggest female just went around trying to kill everything that moved, including tank mates! It actively sort out the other 2 in an attempt to kill them!

And even after removing her, the last two still went for each others throats.

How much space did they chuffing need!!!!!

Anyhow the last two females living in their own enclosures to prevent losses. I suppose it is possible I have bought the 3 most grumpy scorpio maurus in history!
