im setting up a new home for my forest scorps and i was woundering if anything needs to be done to stuff i find outside to use. my main concern is bark. i have a couple pieces i would like to use as hides and partially burry. does it need to be treated to keep from rotting? btw, before putting anything in there (including rocks) i microwave them for 30 secs.

I usually soak wood in the bath tub in the hottest water you're faucet can make for about 10 minutes and then bake it in the oven for 10 minutes at 350* F.

Same, but I just soak thoroughly then into the oven for the same 350. The water boils inside and kills things faster and more thoroughly.

sweet, ill give that a try. i just pulled out some pieces from a trial run and they had the white fuzzies. i know its not bad for my scorps but if the fuzz is there in 3 days, whats it gonna be like in 3 months? babies are off the back so i need to solve this ASAP! the pieces are from a maple tree i believe. i guess pine is the only "dangerous" wood but can i stop the mold?

Most of the time wood will either mold until the humidity settles and stop, or it'll just mold forever. Some woods are more resistant than others. It'll just be trial and error.

I just throw things in the freezer for 24 hours. I've got a nice piece of bark in my emp tank that has been there for about two months and everything is fine.

I generally try to avoid urine. It's too acidic for desert scorps. Good for trops though.
