My P.Cav Finally Molted!

Hey guys, haven't been posting a whole lot lately (although that means I haven't been having too many issues) but I think that Tenacious my P Cavimanus is going to molt soon, she hasn't been eating as much (little more than a month now) and has gotten bigger, I think I can see the areas where her new tergites will come though, are there any clear signs right before the molt? I can see the indents of her new exoskeleton in the 'soft skin' between the top and bottom. Pretty excited for her to molt, she's gunna be so big!

The only clear sign I've ever gotten is when they're FAT and I can see tergites through the membrane. That may be more difficult with something as large as a Pandinus (thicker membrane = harder to see through).

Just keep an eye on her, if your lucky you will see the moult in progress, it's so wierd and cool.

I hope I can catch her in the act and get some nice pictures, and I hope it happens before I head back up north, winter break soon, traveling in cold cold weather poop.

i've only ever seen a shed in progress once and it was fantastic.

I hate waiting for them to shed though, like when they're gravid you think they cant go on much longer... and they do!

I've seen quite a few moults from my young I's, and it is so awesome and strange.

The anticipatio is killing me, my first scorp was gravid whe nI bought her and she died right when she was ready to pop... she was HUGE.... sad too. That better not happen this time!

It's finally happening! We were sleeping and I got up, so I decided to check on Tenacious when BAM she's halfway out of her skin! I really hope the humidity where she is is enough for her, is there any way to tell?

How often were you checking her?

Pretty often, so far, but prolly gunna have to go back to bed soon, had to open the top to get a good shot, and she did this little wiggle that was disgusting/awesome. I don't wanna disturb her though, but DAMN I'm excited now. My first molt! Her last molt! I can Finally breed her now!

Hey, just realized something, I gotta be headin up North on tuesday, her traveling arrangements are in a small critter keeper full of moist moss between my GF's thighs with some plastic wrap across the top, when will she be good to travel?

DONE!! She's already molting and she's gorgious, my roomate girlfriend and I have been sitting around and checkin once and awhile! Here she is, the new and improved...

it's so weird how scorps can completely distort thier bodies when moulting! look at the chela in the first pic!

Yeah, she's all like wet spaghetti.... eeeeeeew. I was wondering how she would 'fix' her chela, but when I took my periodic looks at her... just... bam fixed *shrugs* Imagine if people molted and your parents saved your molts?

That would be really creepy.

So Tenacious may actually be a boy now... lol, she was incredible hard to sex, being immature. But now her chela have a much more pronounced tooth and potentially a dent, I still have to wait and see for them to harden up from molting, and have her come out of her hole so I can get a good look... but what an interesting development that would be.
