Hadrurus Arizonensis Ideal Substrate Empty
PostSubject: Hadrurus Arizonensis Ideal Substrate   Hadrurus Arizonensis Ideal Substrate Empty11/23/2008, 7:08 pm

I just got myself an H. Arizonensis. I would like to know what would be the ideal subtrate for him, I just used reptile sand, and he seems to dig, but cant build a burrow. I installed him a hide which he doesn't use. I would also like to know if hardware store sand would work, that stuff from pets shop is a little overpriced in my opinion. Thanks

I used "desert sand" from the garden department at Home Depot mixed 70:30 with excavator clay. That really helps to support the burrows and keep them from collapsing.

When you do this (make sure to let it dry completely for a day or two), put down a flat rock or two with a "starter burrow" under them -- just a shallow scrape for the scorpion to start digging in.

I just mixed it up in that ratio (70% sand, 30% excavator) and added water, then let it dry for a few days. Her burrow hasn't collapsed since.
