The "Hungry pose"

Hi, I'm new here as much than i'm new with scorpions. I just recently got 2 scorpion emperors, and have been surfing the web for info about care and all that stuff. I came across a few posts here that mentionned a " feed me" pose. I just wanted to know if anyone has a picture, could be a good way to know when to feed. Thanks

The "feed me" pose is essentially open pinchers and nothing else sticking out of the burrow.

Sometimes you'll see them sort of "hanging out" with their pinchers wide open -- that's another variant.

so, should I feed them everytime they pose that way??



Could this be that pose despite the fact, the scorpion ins't in a burrow

looks like it might be hungry yes,
but if i were you i would swich the substrate to eco earth or coco fibre
emperors need high humidity levels

That's a portion of the "aquarium" i'm using the rest of it is called forest bark. The sandy part is only a little less than a thirdof all the surface

Sand is not at all an appropriate substrate for emperor scorpions. Neither is bark.

Please see our caresheet or frequently asked questions for emperors. I highly suggest changing your tank out for a more appropriate setup ASAP.

That looks more like a "wandering about and exploring" pose. Emps can fast for weeks to months, so just offer him prey once a week or so and remove it if he doesn't eat it.

yea sand is bad mate, oh and also that bark stuff isnt much use either isnt good at holding water, and ontop of that cant really be burrowed in, and 99% of emperors are pet holes and love hiding in there burrows, so a revamp of your setup is for the best
frm what i can see of the wall of your enclosure humidity is way low for an emp, altho I do like the army men

I'll do the switch this weekend. At the pet shop where I bought them, they were kept in sand only, with barely a place to hide, I even doubt they were misted.

Typical pet store setup..they want the scorpions to be seen and bought...not hiding in their usual habitat..which is bad for them

Maybe the guys that work there don't know a lot about scorpions. It seems to me that people don't know a lot about them. When I first told the guys at work about my new pets, they called me crazy, asked me if I would die if I would get stung and stuff like that. I also though the same before I started researching.

Everyone is pretty uneducated when it comes to emps. You emp might die soon if you don't switch it....just making sure it gets said again . Stick around here and you'll start learning like crazy and might even add to you collection.

I'm doing the switch right now as we speak, and you know what, it's smells better than that bark stuff I used before, and is also cheaper. I hope they'll enjoy it.
