A good day for scorps Empty
PostSubject: A good day for scorps   A good day for scorps Empty10/17/2008, 10:26 pm

Today I got five 3I Tityus stigmurus AND a freebie 3I Uroctonus mordax! What a Face

The T. stigmurus were from Jared (thanks dude!!), and I can't believe the coloration. Makes B. jacksoni look like mud. I probably would have missed them, too, if I hadn't left a note for the mailman.

The U. mordax came down to being in the right place at the right time. The woman who found the female back in April that later had babies this summer was in class in the building I used to work in. Someone sitting next to her pointed out a scorpion running across the floor, so she caught it and brought it up to the lab I used to work in. I had JUST gotten there not five minutes earlier to look something up on a computer, and if I didn't have a BugZoo outreach coming up, I wouldn't have even been in that building today. (So awesome timing on two counts there Very Happy.)

As far as I can tell the little guy is a 3I male U. mordax, and I have NO idea what it was doing in that building. As far as I'm aware the nearest habitat is at least 10 miles away, if not further. I asked one of my awesome entomological connections if he knew anything about it, and said it wasn't one of his specimens. The closest guess he had was someone doing a soil litter sample somewhere in the building and that this guy got out.

Not that I'm complaining!
