PostSubject: Scorpions in the Fall?   10/11/2008, 2:16 pm

I'm going to West Texas again, this Thanksgiving and was hoping that the weather wouldn't be too cold to possibly look for c. vittatus... Do they stop coming out in the early Fall? Or do they tend to stay out till the first "freeze"?

Hmmmm, i'm sure you sould still find some, even if it is cold, they would fall into a dormant state, and you'd probably still find them around hiding.

wait for some of the american members to reply, they know better than me. Smile

How cold does it get out there? I was under the impression that the temperatures stay mild even in winter.

They'd probably be less active, so you'd have to flip everything you see when you're blacklighting (as opposed to them just hanging out in the open or wandering about).

When I was catching vittatus they were laying on the ground near bushes. They were never under rocks (and trust me we flipped hundreds and took a good dozen spider bites).

Even if they look dead I would collect them. When it gets cold scorps just frezze up for a while.
