I will have to get him in an empty terrarium, I have one with a glass bottom. I can do that and take a pic of the bottom, but I could do that. I'm not sure if it's male or female.

Question though: If this one is male, and that one is female, but they aren't communal, how in the world do they get along to mate or rather, how do you know when they want to?

I imagine mating non-communal scorpions would be a bit tricky . . . I tried with H. paucidens once and the female just grabbed the male and shoved him out of the tank.


My suggestion would be, once you confirm the sex of each, to just place the male in the female's tank (so there's pheromones to pick up) and watch them carefully. If you see a dance, take the male out when they're done. If they ignore each other for longer than you're willing to wait, or if it looks like the female is attacking the male with the pedipalps, then separate them.

Keep in mind, you could see a sexual sting, and shouldn't be alarmed by it.

Ok i will keep that in mind. I'll give it a while though. This other P. Boreus I have ate the other one that it was in before (My friend knows nothing about them and sees them at his house all the time and thought he would get them for me as a surprise) and low and behold..... nothing but pinchers and a tail when he woke up and looked in the little jar. Poor thing Told him one jar per scorp next time, he didn't know better. I guess my fear is whether or not i have a mean spiteful boreus, or if it was because he was just in really close quarters with another...

Probably because they were in close quarters. I know a professor who had a few students catch some and put more than one in the deli cup for the drive home, and discovered only one when they arrived. :-O
