so all the babies i have sold to my friends have molted except for the two out of three i am keeping for my own... i want to raise them Laughing.

so hats a bonus so far STILL only one casualty and that was Mr. I didn't want to survive the molt into 2I. (but provided a good first meal for the babies)

ok. so my bad. this thread is in the pandinus section. Its just the chela in your pics look smooth. Mine to the naked eye have visable bumps on the chela from 2I...very small...but there none the less there
Its just the picture and the angle which made me think it wasnt pandinus babies.

Sorry for the confusion!

Im glad they are doing ok. I tell you, its such a wait from 4I into 5I...but since they are 6 months old...a bit longer to go until 5I and then 6th!
I know I have a long way to go and still a good few of mine having even gone to 4I yet. are going to be soon im sure but not just yet!
They are all at different stages in their development and not all moulting together. A constant waiting game!

Then his female emps were probably WC gravid.

The problems with hybridizing ANY animal are finding species that have compatible genetalia -- or in the case of scorpions, spermataphores and genital opercula. If a male H. longimanus spermataphore's shape is not compatible with a female P. imperator's genital operculum, hybridization would be impossible.

This unliklihood is compounded by the fact that not only is your friend dealing with two different species, he's dealing with two different genera. A classic hybrid example, the mule, is a hybrid of Equus caballus and E. asinus -- two species from one genus. The only confirmed hybrids I've heard of in the arachnid world were offspring whose parents were both Brachypelma species of tarantula (as well as possible "natural" hybrids of Avicularia spp. occurring in the wild). Both of those cases, like the mule, were from species within the same genus.

The only way he could be absolutely sure that they were hybrids would be if the female emps molted to maturity IN HIS CARE and AWAY from any male emperors.

If they gave birth in any period of time LESS than 18 months in his care, it's HIGHLY unlikely the offspring were hybrids.

You can go ahead and quote this post in its entirety if you'd like, and mention that I'm going into my fifth undergraduate year as a student in bioengineering, with a healthy background in biology, biochemistry, and entomology.

If you can, find out the necessary details:

-- When he acquired each scorpion
-- When they were cohabited
-- When the female(s) gave birth
-- If any of them molted in his care

He really needs to listen to the advice you give him. Chances are she was bread in the wild.
I doubt in transport they feel 100% comfortable to mate. I guess in "stops" they could if any. But as Mike said, Pandinus and Heterometrus mating...in such a situation are very slim.

Yah but hes stubborn too. he has a book about scorpions. Its like one you would buy from a pet shop on basic care kinda thing. He goes by it like its his bible. THE BOOK IS CRAP! L've browsed through.
-DONT LEAVE BABIES WITH MOM SHE WILL EAT THEM
-ITS EVEN HARD FOR SOMEONE WHO STUDIES SCORPIONS TO SEX THEM

oh i almost forgot.
the book also said Hets were more poisoness the babycirus!

all i have to say about that book is its not worth the wiping with.

I tried to get him to come here but he wont I think hes afraid to be proven wrong kinda thing.. one of those "Im always right"
