I bought these to at a petstore close to where I live. They were labeled "Forest Scorpion." I am assuming that these are Heterometrus sp. but I just want to be sure.

i'm guessing young Heterometrus longimanus, or laoticus.

if it isn't, definetly looks like a heterometrus.

Definitely Heterometrus sp., and another guess for H. laoticus. Get a close look at the carapace; if there's no granulation, then that's what it is.

The adults are a tad smaller than emps; I'm guessing those are mature.

nah that's not a spinifer. I think spinifers tend to have simmilar-coloured telsons to emps.

and I think the chela are a bit to granulated to be a spinifer.

i'm sure there are a few telson colour variants in spinifer. i've seen pics of spinifers having a darkish red colour, and a black colour.

Spinifers have granulation on the chela.
Laoticus have little to none(basically none) on chela and also carapace.

Its what I have im sure that have had the babies.
I will do pics to be sure but what you have there looks like I what I have!

IIRC, there is some color variation in the telsons of H. spinifer. My H. laoticus had a black telson and my H. longimanus all have browns.
