| Subject: Protoiurus Kraepelini or is it? Questions 9/20/2016, 5:58 am | |
| Hello all, I recently purchased a trio of what is listed as "Protoiurus Kraepelini" on Bugzuk, however could not find a single piece of information relating to this species, other than one other forum post from Arachnoboards mentioning they had also purchased a Kraepelini species from Bugzuk but all experts seemed puzzled by the species photographs provided. Many believe that Bugzuk were infact selling: Iurus kraepelini If so I was wondering what the care requirements were for this species, or at least what others have encountered when rearing these. I can supply 3 images as shown on the Bugz website. These can be found below: Information regarding this species seems fairly limited, I was initially going for the 30-70 Sand + Cocofiber substrate, with plenty of hides and cork bark distributed around the enclosure. But if anyone could shed further light that would be excellent. Thanks, George | |

| Hi George.
The correct name actually is Protoiurus kraepelini.
Now, is that what this scorpion is?
I have no idea. It's a possibility, sure but there are others that look very similar.
This is a link to the paper with the description of the genus: http://www.science.marshall.edu/fet/euscorpius/p2012_143.pdf
The paper does include an identification key, however unless you have an understanding of scorpion taxonomy, and the proper equipment to make an ID, it's going to be nearly impossible to confirm what species it is. Furthermore, much of it is based on hemispermatophore structure.
What you could try to do is find out the exact location where the specimens were collected, and compare that to the distribution map in the paper. It might be able to narrow it down somewhat.
And as for keeping conditions....
As I've said, the paper includes a distribution map. It shouldn't be too hard to find out what the climate and natural habitat is like based on that. | |

| Thanks for the speedy reply.
I've looked over the paper, shall have to wait until they are a bit larger to determine species if I do, but appears the setups I've got currently are well suited to them.
Much appreciated on that paper though!
