PostSubject: Longevity AFTER giving birth.   Longevity AFTER giving birth. Empty8/3/2015, 1:17 am

Ok, so I've kept various species that have given birth. I'm curious how long you guys/gals manage to keep your females alive after they have produced broods. The longest so far that I've managed to keep was uroctonus mordax, for almost a year after she gave birth, then was released back into the wild where she was caught (along with her 20 or so 2nd and 3rd instar broodlings) and she was doing great, so I have no idea how long she would have made it. However I have not been as lucky with asian forest scorpions or emperors. Maybe 4-6 months after producing a brood they tend to slow down and die. What gives?

That totally depends on the age and health of the individual.

Some might live for years, others may die shortly after birth.

My P.Trans gave birth on the 19/10/2013, then again on the 08/04/2105 and she is currently gravid again so that makes 20 months and I am not sure if she had given birth before capture.

Wait a minute.. did you say she gave birth to at least 2 broods? MIND BLOWN. I must have had older wild caught individuals. I'm currently waiting for a P.liosoma to arrive, I can only hope it's not an older one.

Yep, scorpions can easily give birth up to four times, or heck, more. I dont keep count, but my bark scorpions, due to their shorter gestation, usually give me 3-4 before croaking. My Parabuthus have yet to croak, but I've got two out of them thus far.

As the others have said, it also depends on if theyre wild caught, captive bred, if they've been hotboxed and powerfed, etc.
