Scorpions are such unique inverts and to understand them fully is almost impossible study

Have you observed any interesting Shocked .. extraordinary.. or even weird scratch behavior of them that you would like to share or get some opinions about?

Post your captured pics/ vids here.. let the FACINATION begins What a Face

Do you mean the scorpion's act of burying one or both pedipalps under the sand momentarily in certain scenarios they encounter?

That's exactly what I mean! I figured I wasn't the only one who saw this and maybe someone had some idea why.

Yeah, I've seen that quit a bit! I see that with all my Scorps, but I've only seen the hand burring with the Andro's.

Yes I saw this with my Bicolors. Most commonly they stick their pedipalp (right or left one) in the sand in and out like trying to probe something (much the same as people try to probe for mines in the field with a stick) when prey comes near and scorpion attacks but looses the pray, then starts to stick it in the sand. Maybe trying to clean the hairs on the pedipalp after attack I figured....

What made me ask, was last night I noticed one grabbed a cricket with one hand and buried the other as if to brace itself, but then it brought it right up out of the sand.

I've seen something similar. I suppose the pedipalps were stained with fluids from the feeder during attempts to take down the prey and hence, they bury their pedipalps momentarily under the sand to dry it up or to do some "hair cleaning" like what Wearelegion has suggested Smile

It'll be good if anyone has found any scientific write-up on this behavior to share with us.

Interesting..
Could you describe further in words (e.g. under what circumstances) or capture the motion on a vid will be even better Smile

She does try it sometimes, but she's too heavy and she slides down. She's definitely one I must be careful with, she'll probably cut my finger out if she pinches me.
Last time I just left the tweezers in for a day, until she gave up on them.

Leaving in the tweezers... Ultimate.
I was pinched quite abit recently when i did a re-house for my 29 H.spinifer (5/6.instars) and they already packed in some damage. Can't imagine getting pinched by a H.swammerdami that big. lolz

Capturing evidence of increased heat requirements for gravid scorpions.

This time round.. it's a bark scorpion. Guess the specie if you can Smile
