This looks more like P.kraepelini. P.raudus is usually restricted to the Kalahari Sand System and as far as I know the Kalahari Sand System only stretches into the Eastern parts of Namibia but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Well noted shadowfoot!

The area we found it was close to Omitara on a farm that actually is on the edge of the Kalahari. The vegetation is currently dense but in winter you find huge patches with those classic red sand dunes. The exact Google Map coordinates are “-22.396219388607516,18.070819973945618 “ if you would like to see… We found it underneath a fallen old tree trunk (although this is actually not typical for raudus…)
P.S. this guy is very placid but I think it’s due to the winter breaking in now and the fact that it seemed to have a nice meal before we collected it?

To Shane...indeed a very nice speciment which we are aiming to keep and record on its development.

Coming to ID species…this is one of the main reasons I actually joined you guys!
For me it’s really difficult to ID the various species we have got (and Namibia has A LOT).
The names already mentioned by shadowfoot for instance, do not even appear in the field guides I have got. So my aim is to be 100% sure about the species I keep and make notes so one day I could add to info on our precious species.

Shane, to me the most interesting behavior of parabuthus is the way they actually use their tail as n tool to find a soft spot on their prey to deliver the lethal sting!

hahaha as opposed to Androctonus which could kill their prey with the tail even without a stinger. Just smash it to pieces! Very Happy
