Pregnant emperor scorpion? Empty
PostSubject: Pregnant emperor scorpion?   Pregnant emperor scorpion? Empty2/26/2014, 12:33 pm

I am wondering if this new female scorpion is pregnant or if a previous owner had overfed her. I do not know much about her history, but I do know at the pet shop she was housed with a mature male.
Here are some pictures for deduction:

Well, first off its not an emperor. Ii is some kind of Heterometrus sp. P. imps do not have black telsons, they are dark red. As far as being gravid, I cant really say. It could just be well fed.

It's hard to see in this picture but her telson is a gradient of dark/black to a red/black. I was told by someone on another forum she's definitely an emp. However, they do look really similar!

You could try to fast her for a couple of weeks or three. If she slims down then she is not pregnant

Alright, so I haven't intentionally fasted her, she hasn't been too interested in food. But I do notice she's more defensive than the male she's housed with as well as her being practically obsessed with either being by her heat pad or burrowing under damp moss.
I was concerned at first about her eating, but I have heard that asian forest scorps are known for taking little eating breaks
Her tank-mate however, is a very good eater and "takes care of" my female's leftovers.

It maybe a a good idea to separate her tankmate for now or provide a lot more hides for them both
